Response Question: Jonathan Lyte Tremain (pages 72-139):
What proof does Johnny have that he is related to the Lyte family? What is Mr. Lyte's reaction when Johnny says he is a relative of the Lytes? Why do you think Johnny comes forward with this information now?

Johnny's proof of his relation to the Lyte's is that he owns one of their cups to him by his mother. Merchant Lyte first tells Johnny to come to his house and then he accuses Johnny of stealing the cup. I think Johnny does this not only because everyone has turned on him but to impress Cilla.
He tells the story with that silver cup. He didn't like it, because of Johnny's wealth. This is a reason, Mr. Lyte told him to bring the cup home, and the next thing, Mr. Lyte blames that Johnny had stolen the cup. He tries to compare Johnny to the colonies, that didn't have money to fight.
